About Hip Hound
Our Humble Beginnings
Meet Lynn – an everyday girl living and working in sunny Southern California. Never having a pet as a child (ever; not even a goldfish) she attended a dog rescue event in front of her local PetsMart in May 2004.
Meet Sahara – the 3 month old puppy snatched from the jaws of certain death at the hands of a high kill shelter in Los Angeles by dedicated dog rescuers.
Their paths crossed that fateful day in May 2004 and it was love at first sight.
Now a proud Fur Mom, Lynn became fascinated (okay – some people may have viewed it as being mildly obsessed) with pet accessories, specifically the dog collar. It didn't take long before her mild obsession turned into a full blown addiction. Dozens upon dozens (upon dozens; seriously) of collars later Lynn and Sahara discovered they were no longer satisfied with what was currently out there. They had a vision for something more fun, off the wall, hip if will. Launching with a line of collars and then shortly thereafter a collection of pet ID tags, Hip Hound Couture was born.
Our Mindset
Hip Hound believes pets are family members. They brighten our day, bring us joy and ask for very little, if anything, in return. They love us when no one else can stand us. They stick with us through thick and thin, good and bad. They don’t laugh at us. They don’t judge us. They love us unconditionally. How cool is that?
Our vision for Hip Hound is to make it a one stop shop for people who share our love and appreciation for their furry family members. We will constantly strive to offer you – our valued customer – a fun and affordable product mix. We realize you have an abundance of shopping choices when searching for pet products and supplies. Our goal is to offer a unique and memorable experience that will earn your business over and over again.
Giving Back
We believe our first priority is to ‘WOW' and serve our customers. That being said, we also feel we have a responsibility to make a difference in our industry and the world, however small that contribution may be. To that end we have instituted our Collar for a Cause initiative. 10% of profits from the sale of our Hip Hound collar, leash and harness line goes directly to supporting Best Friends ‘Puppies aren’t Products’ campaign. This national program launched in 2009 seeks to educate the buying public about the cruel realities of the puppy mill trade. To learn more about this great cause and you can get involved, please take a minute to visit their website.
We are always looking for new ways to support rescue organizations and the critical work that they do. If you are a rescue group member and have an idea, comment or suggestion please contact us. We have some exciting programs in the works and would love your input!
We WANT to Hear From You!
This business was started because of one quirky, stubborn and adorable rescue pup. We stay in business because of you, our great customers. At any time if you have any questions, concerns, problems or heck, even praise, please contact us. We want to know how we are doing and where we can improve. And don’t forget to become a fan on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!
