Designer Dog Accessories from Hip Hound Couture

Our very special Halle (beautiful Weimaraner) got a chance to model some of Hip Hound Couture's stylish canine products. She paraded the Bohemian Rhapsodie collection which interestingly matches her personality and colors perfectly; "Bohemian: one who lives and acts with no regard for conventional rules of behavior" - yup that's Halle! They have a series of designer dog leads, collars and harnesses made of durable, easy to clean material that is ultra-soft. The designs are modern, fun and made of water-based inks that are embedded into the fabric - the colors won't fade out with everyday use. We enjoyed the overall lasting quality of the hardware - crucial when you live & play with a strong energetic beast!

They also have a fun collection of DogOscopes, Astrology inspired original dog ID tags and charms for your pooch. We love the clever names; Gemutti, Libarka, Capricanine, Scorpupio and more. It's great to know that Halle's officially a Viruffgo! They even have one specially made for rescue dogs called Ruffscue, so cute and sweet! These tags are super resistant and durable, the designs are covered with a clear epoxy coating. Constructed of nickel-plated steel with a smooth back for easy engraving.

Hip Hound works with several dog charities and organizations. 10% from every collar sale (leads and harnesses, too) goes towards supporting Best Friends' Puppies Aren't Products initiative.

We love that they showcase the designers and celebrate the unique concepts and designs. It's also very easy to appreciate that their product line is modeled around giving back and making a difference. The collection is distinct and very high quality - nothing but super Wags from Halle!

Pampered Puppy strikes again and this time reviews one of our fun, hip collar designs, Born to Bark.

Tattoo Inspired Dog Collar from Hip Hound Couture

Dog Collars Review - A Merryvaluation

When you're 17 pounds and only hit most people mid-calf, you gotta have attitude or they'll walk all over you.

Luckily, attitude has never been the little pug princess's problem. (Seriously.) She has it in spades - you should see her "tough girl" look. It'll make you shake in your boots. For about five seconds. Then you'll have to laugh. But whatever.

The point is, when you've got the 'tude, you need gear to help you express it. Enter: Hip Hound Couture and their rock'em sock'em Born to Bark collar and leash set.

This exclusive collar and leash design by Stephen Bailey is tattoo-inspired; the outer side features a yellow background with a barbed-wire, heart and banner design with the words "Born to Bark". The flip side features an orange background and a classic yellow/orange/black flames design (so 70s - remember when this was painted on vans? I'm so old).

One of the things I loved best about this collar & lead set was the fact that it isn't your typical ribbon collar with a nylon backing. The material is custom spun polyester, milled especially for Hip Hound. The design is embedded directly into the fabric itself so that the prints don't "wear off" during prolonged use.

There's more to it than that, though. The fabric is also wicked flexible when compared to typical nylon collars. This fabric is softer, more flexible and not as thick around the neck as a typical ribbon/nylon collar. This makes it perfect for the pooch with a sensitive neck, one who struggles with fur getting caught in ribbon collars OR any pooch for the summertime... since it's so much lighter than your usual fabric collar.

The findings are molded black plastic (it's a quick-release buckle) with a nickel plated steel. Everything's double stitched and made in the good old U. S. of A.

The collar comes in several different sizes and two different widths - from a size 8 to a size 22+, and widths are 5/8" in the smaller sizes (pictured, right) but available in 1" widths for larger pooches. The matching leash can be had in either width and is 5 feet long.

I found the size adjustment to be one of the easiest I've ever had with a fabric quick-release style collar. Usually you have to tug and struggle a bit to resize the collar because the fabric is either a little too thick for the adjuster, or the collar is made of a fabric that catches and pulls against itself when you're trying to adjust. Thanks to the slender poly fabric, it adjusted wonderfully well but still held properly.

Love fabric collars and 'tude combined? Does your pooch want a tattoo but you don't want to hold him while he gets it? This is so your style, and well worth it. Give it a try.

Astrological Dog ID tag from Dogoscopes

Dog Charms and ID Tags Review - A Merryvaluation

Astrology is one of those things I dabbled with here and again during my lifetime. Not to the point where I could build you a chart with your houses or anything, but sometimes I read my horoscope, sometimes I read about other zodiac signs... enough so that I could probably tell you, when pressed, which signs are Fire and which are Air and which are Earth. Sometimes it seemed bang-on accurate, other times it seemed as vague as anything else.

The princess pug, born on June 6th, is a Gemini. According to Wikipedia, Geminis are extroverts, adaptable, charming, clever and youthful. They're also ideally suited for a job as a model.

Chalk one up for the astrology folks! That's a dead on a description as it gets for princess Meredith.

The folks at Dogoscopes totally get the astrology thing, which is why they've created a series of dog ID tags that form "a Zodiac guide to the souls of our pooches" (their words).

And they sent along a Gemutti tag (the dog-ized version of Gemini) for the princess to check out.

The front of the tag is circled in two shades of yellow and features the words "Gemutti/the Gemini" as well as an adorable illustration of twin fidos (the work of artist Jen Griggs Sebastian) with matching collars (because Gemini is the twins... get it?). All of the edging in the design is raised and metallic, while the rest of the tag is colored in.

The back of the tag is solid metal and engravable - in fact, the kind folks at Dogoscopes laser engraved it for us, with Merry's name and our work telephone number in case the princess goes missing.

We particularly liked the nod towards durability: each tag is made from "ruff-tuff" nickel-plated steel, and the covering of clear epoxy coating over the front of the tag.

Also nice is the sizing, to accomodate different-sized dogs: they sell two sizes, a 7/8" diameter (shown) for smaller pups, and a 1 1/8" diameter for bigger dogs. Nicest of all: the 15mm split ring is included - and not all ID tags come that way, so this small touch is appreciated.

Each package, of course, also gives you a little background on your furkid's zodiac sign and traits.

I thought these ID tags were a brilliant way to personalize your pooch's collar and also provide ID info in the event they go a'wandering. Dogoscopes tags are really clever; I can't wait to see what else the company comes up with!

Pampered Puppy, the web's largest online magazine and shopping portal devoted to luxury lifestyles for dogs, recently blogged about Hip Hound's newest product release, DogOscopes dog ID tags.

Fashion: Astrological dog collar charms

Astrology is going to the K-9s with the adorable collar charms from DogOscopes.

As above, so below; is the second phase moon in the doghouse? You know it is with these charms. We love the whimsical names . . . Scorpupio the Scorpion, Caninecer the Cancer, Aquaruffus the Aquarius . . . not to mention that the nickle-plated steel tags are lead free. Offered in two sizes, 7/8" diameter and 1 1/8" diameter. For that special somedoggy, personalized engraving may be had. So put on your recording of Gustav Holst's The Planets, or alternately, the song Aquarius from the musical Hair, and get into that astrological groove together with your chien. It's a means of strengthening the human-canine bond that is just out of this world.
